Anyone here familiar with Vitamin D deficiency?

HI all

Just found out that my Vitamin D level is way too low. It is about a 4 when 40 is normal.

My dr prescribed some Vit D pills to be taken twice a week.

They cost about $20 for 8 pills. And my prescription plan does not cover them at all.

Does anyone else know of an over the counter type that I can use that costs less and does the same job?

I was prescribed Vitamin D Cap 50000IU

It is very costly to me, 8 pills for one month??? so any suggestions would be great.

Oh-I have alredy checked into the natural ways of upping my Vitamin D so I will do those too--like being in sunlight etc. But some of the foods they mentioned I am allergic to so I can tolerate them at all.

Will check back later to see if anyone has any other OTC ideas that might save me some money.

Thank you in advance.
I too was taking 50,000 units of Vitamin D and am waiting for my test results back. I've done a lot of research on the Internet and this is no laughing matter. Bite the bullet and start taking the pills, or contact the pharmaceutical company and see if they will send you samples ... tell them you can't afford it. Good luck.
And make sure you go out in the sun every day for at least 20 minutes each day without sunscreen. Not easy in the winter here.
Here is what you may need. I am following his advice. Dr. Miller is no crackpot, but a heart surgeon who has an interest in Vitamin D3.

Dr. Miller lists 2 places to get the Vitamin D3 online that will cost you about 25 cents a day.

Right now I am using Naturemade Vitamin D3 I get at the Kroger grocery store and take 5 tiny pills to get my 5000 I.U. a day. It costs me about $4 a bottle of 125 pills. Naturemade has a buy 1 get 1 bottle free deal every other month or so. You also get free coupons from their web site with each purchase you make. I am using that brand just because I have not gotten around to buying online and I already use that brand for other vitamins.

Sorry but nature made is crap that is why it is so cheap. To get the full benefit out of a vitamin or supplement it needs to be made from good quality ingredients.
no,you neednot take so many "d"pills, and what you should do is just to go out to get a su tan, which will produce "d" in your body quickly
I am curious as to what kind of symptoms you had that they would check your vitamin D level. I was recently told to take vit d and magnesium to help with rls, but, the dosage is not nearly that high and I just buy it otc.
My dr prescribed some Vit D pills to be taken twice a week.

What is the IU dosage for each pill?
You should eat foods rich in that vitamin..Look them up..

Also ..when buying regular food..like cereals..milk..yogurt..spreads..butter..margarine..etc . pay attention to the amount of vit.D they are enriched with..
Normal daily dose should be no less than 400 IU..But recent research in Canada points out to a lot higher values needed for people living in certain ..less sunny regions..

When our grandson was 10 days old he turned jaundiced and the doctor said vitamin D would do the trick. Personally I wonder if it isn't a sign that there is exposure prior to conception and even when he got home ... to the 2-butoxyethanol chemical or BUTYL could be an exposure as it is too strong in many cleaning products, carpet cleaner, paint ... and the chemical can get into one's eyes.

Baby was also preterm by about a month, and as he grew (he is 2 years old now) he was slow to develop.

If your system is dealing with autoimmune metabolic issues, it might not matter how much Vit D you are taking, maybe your body can't utilize it.

Do you also have FATIGUE? Headaches?

Do you recall having a serious flu? (That's what exposure looks like)
