All you have to do to find the BUTYL or 2-butoxyethanol poisoning is to look at what is different EXACTLY when the flu symptoms startup  *

Then early on look for blood in urine, very high white blood cell counts (an anemia sign of autoimmune hemolytic anemia) and ragged and beat up red blood cells.

These soldiers were most likely poisoned at that time...
not from a prior military assignment
