| Korean War Vets with Brain Tumor
- GMB |
|
I was just wondering how many people have loved ones that served
in
the Korean war and have/had a GBM? I have read of about 4-5 people
in
addition to my father that served in the Korean War and have GBM's.
I
just thought it was interesting and I thought I'd ask.

Korean War/GBM?
Dear Suzanne,
Yes my dad served in
the Korean War but developed the
anaplastic oligo grade 3
with genetic deletions.? He belongs
to the local chapter of the Korean
War
Veterans Association but is the only
one with brain cancer although quite
a few
have developed other types of
cancer.? There is a magazine called
the Graybeards
that is the official publication of
the KWVA that maybe you can check.
Karen
Hi Karen,
Thanks... I thought I
remembered you telling
me that your dad was in
the Korean War. I will
look into that magazine.
This is my
father's 3rd battle with
cancer. Testicular 1976,
Bladder Cancer
3x, 2001,2002,2002 and
now this.

You know, this is an
interesting point
brought up about the
wars and exposures
to various chemicals
(such as Agent Orange) -
I am curious if anyone
else has
filed with the VA and
has been approved or
turned down for
benefits?
The VA is being really
rude with us as far as
the brain cancer is
concerned -
they turned my husband
down for any medical
treatment at a VA
facility he might
want (which is ok, we
have private insurance),
but they say it is all
statistics

How interesting you would ask -- my husband was in the Korean war
and
stationed on Kwajalein Island in 1952-53. He has a GBM IV and is 75
years
old. Has had thyroid cancer and a few years later parotid gland
cancer. We
have been told the thyroid cancer most probably was caused from the
radiation exposure he got while on the island after the bomb tests
that were
going on over in that area. The drifting wind towards the island. He
was
in the navy air force. (Not a pilot). Where was your dad stationed?

Hi Arlene,
I'm not exactly sure where he was stationed. The records were
destroyed in a fire and we've had trouble getting information.
He was in the army and was in front-line combat. I know he fought
along the Naktong River in 1951.
I really don't know if any of this has to do with being in the war,
I guess we as caregivers "reach for straws" and answers.
I hope you are doing well today.

Susanne-- Your email sparked my interest. I have had a similar
question for
some time now. While my husband was not in the Korean war, he was in
the 2nd
war in Iraq. We've always wondered if this could be related in some
way or if
there could be a link. Currently, his presumed diagnosis is a low
grade glioma
(no biospy yet).
Has anyone else w/ a BT diagnosis fought in other wars?

My husband was in Viet Nam and was exposed to Agent
Orange. Our first questions
to the VA about the possibility of a connection were
responded to with a very
strong no. They said there was no evidence that Agent
Orange could be causative
in the development of brain cancer. I still feel that
the only reason they say
this is because the frequency is so low in general and I
wonder if the VA has
any idea how many vets have this dx. I keep thinking I
need to pursue this
further. Has anyone else approached the VA with these
questions?

Candi -
My husband talked to the VA about his prostate
cancer, then years later, the
development of brain cancer - he, too, was in
Viet Nam - served as a medic.

Leah - yes, husband in Viet Nam war, now has brain
cancer after suffering from
prostate cancer - he, too, was exposed to agent orange.
The VA denied him any form of treatment - we dont know
what they say about his
disability yet tho

|

Look Alike?
Do WWII Vets, Vietnam Vets,
Korean Vets, Gulf war vets and civilians with CFIDS look alike? Do
they look like the Exxon Valdez oil spill 'bioremediation' workers?
Do they look like our soldiers who fight in wars today?
Health-wise, do they look like our ancestors who fought in other
wars? And let's not forget the WWI

These are some of the central nervous

the case of this exposure I suspect FATIGUE

these signs are there: |
Chills
Fatigue

Yellow

Dark urine (indicative of blood in

I got this list from the medical dictionary

hemolytic anemia. Later ,...
added these to 'the list'
