A Prayer for Alaska

in Valdez, Alaska

Called to the people of Nome, Alaska

Alaska, the land of the midnight Sun

Of swift flowing mountain streams

   Rivers that run

Through the wide spreading interior

     down to the Sea,

Where the tossing waves play, and the

     wind blows so free.

Oh God with salvation come visit this land

And deliver her people from sin's deadly bands.

Alaska, a land of mountains and hills

Of forests and woodlands, of vastness that thrills,

Whose dark shadows hide moose, coyote and bear,

Wolves, porcupine, foxes and the swift-footed hare.

Oh God who made wild life to roam through this land *

Come, deliver her people from sin's mighty bands.

Alaska, a land of glaciers so old

Whose green crystal depths ancient stories unfold

As they catch the reflection of the gay northern lights

That sweep like a curtain across the stage of the night Northern Lights as seen from Valdez, Alaska - Photos by Jedediah R.Smith, Vanguard News

Oh God with nature's grandeur

thou dist bless this great land.

Come, deliver her people from sin's fearful bands.

"No good thing will He withhold - From them who walk uprightly"

painting

This painting, now framed, was found by a helper to Harriet Brown, about the time she arrived in 1946 - to Nome, Alaska. She recognized it immediately as being a site on her grandfather's farm in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. These are Dutch Elm trees she exclaims... and on beyond, see the Butternut tree? My aunt and I would use a stick end of each summer to get the butternuts down. My grandfather raised white-faced sheep. This IS a painting of my grandfather's farm - found in 1946 in an old gold miner's cabin. It was a confirmation to Harriet that she was in the center of God's will for her life!

Miss Harriet Brown shares about someone finding this painting of her grandfather's farm - in a gold miner's cabin

Harriet is a missionary with our church; however, I first remember meeting her at a Women's Aglow Retreat some years ago when it was held at the Assembly of God Little Beaver Camp near Houston, ALASKA
