I think this child was exposed to glycol ether with butyl such as 2-butoxyethanol:

My son was diagnosed with KS at age 5 (severe red eyes were the first sign, he also had some joint pain and couldn't walk). His white blood cell count was so high we had to have him admitted to the Emergency room, where he was treated with Gamma Globulin and was instantly better within hours of the treatment.

The story about Travolta's kid * came out right about the same time and when they mentioned carpet cleaner may have been the cause, we too suspected that as we had just recently cleaned our carpeting.

Anyway, after being treated with the Gamma Globulin (gamma rays?), he had a full body scan because he originally complained of pain in his legs also. Well, the body scan lit up the x-rays to point the disease specialist on hand thought he had either leukemia or neuroblastoma. We were stunned, but after doing some online research myself, I asked if the Gamma treatment he received could have lit up the x-rays (the disease specialist was unaware of the Gamma treatment at the time), and sure enough, that's what happened as he had neither disease. He was about 1hr away from getting a catheter put in for the cancer treatment!!!! Just thought I'd mention this in case it happens to anyone else and they read this.

By the way, my son is just about to turn 13, and while he's had no symptoms of KS since the original diagnoses, he was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes about a year and a half ago. I haven't found any real link between KS and Diabetes however.

He's using an insulin pump and a star on his travel baseball team...the kid as been through a lot, but he's adapting about as well as can be expected

Any type of diabetes or abnormal blood sugar (high or low) can be something this chemical would do (the organic solvent, 2-butoxyethanol ... BUTYL for short)

I think it is a symptom of autoimmune hypothalamus. It just happens to be something easy to find. I think the reason there is an epidemic of type 2 diabetes among the baby boomers is that a lot of WWII vets and those who worked in manufacturing had exposure to this chemical (& it can cause effects of autoimmune issues in offspring). Less severe exposure would be a 'late to show up birth defect'
Regarding the boy with red eyes and very high white blood cell counts ... and a diagnosis of Kawasaki Syndrome. I suspect he was close to dying also. I would suspect he had blood in urine. And that the cause of death in these cases (such as for the 3 soldiers who died after 'flu' symptoms in 2005) ... is the immune system attacking a person, and most strongly in prematurely destroying the red blood cells.

I'm so glad your doctors found help for your son. Maybe they have the secret to stopping a body from going autoimmune (?)

I have no medical background, but I have been looking into the harm of 2-butoxyethanol quite seriously for 7 years ... since I learned that this was the chemical component in Inipol EAP 22 that 1,000 'bioremediation workers were exposed to in 1989 (Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup)

The red eyes would be because the eyes are a primary route of exposure to this chemical. (Vapors getting into one's eyes). What exactly was different then than before then? That will tell you what the source of this chemical exposure was for your son.
