Most people want to rent a house. A house as a rental is not easily found in Valdez...possibly because they are not a good investment as a rental (You could just about buy a 4-plex for the price of a house.) Most of the time, rent wouldn't even cover the mortgage, so why would a house owner want a negative cash flow plus the worry of renting their house? I have observed that home-owners sell their home when they don't need to live in it, and use their equity somewhere else.
