Examples of Second Hand Solvent Exposure

 * One story:  that of the bloke whose wife made him sleep facing a new tallboy (because he breathed fumes on her all night - many solvents are excreted through the respiratory system) and stripped the finish off part of it by the end of the year.  Those affected often become aggressive both at work  and at home.  It is common to find marriages and relationships falling apart.

 * To Gulf war Vets:  First we want to tell you all that it really make us sick to hear about all of your illness and the way you are treated.  You have to live with all the terrible symptoms and we guess you don't get a lot of money for the sacrifice you all gave. We are civilians from Denmark and we think it is a global matter which we all should take part in. We just have one question. Is it possible to pass the illness to a person which is in the same room?  Maybe we are going nuts but we take the chance. During Operation Desert Shield we worked in Germany where we gave guided tours at a museum. A lot of soldiers were transferred to a German military hospital close to our place so they came to us to visit the museum. One of us only had two small groups and later on this person started fainting, shaking etc. This continued for years and the blood samples showed nothing. Now the person knows that she got some different allergies and she is okay. My boyfriend and I continued our work in 1991 where we had huge groups of soldiers. A year later we returned back home and he developed a very bad asthma which he never have had before. I started having problems with my ovaries and for three years ago I had them removed. Now I have problems again and have taken a test for cancer. My boyfriend also started getting a sort of crazy. I thought it was because he had to adjust to our new living but last year he started hitting me so I returned him to Belgium.  Are we just paranoid or is it possible. We hope not, we just want to be calmed down. Hope you will get the help you need.

* Dec 24, 1990:  I had been out shopping in crowded malls where the soldiers and their families shop. The flu-like illness was an active mycoplasma infection which can easily be transferred in its active stage. Unfortunately, at that time, no one knew that just a couple of cycles of antibiotics would not clear it up. I should have been on ABX for at least six months.

 * For the past 2 months, i've been seeing this girl.. and it was all fine and dandy 'til I stayed round one night. we slept in the same bed and she woke up with red, sore, itchy eyes, that just got worse over a period of about an hour... and then stays painful and itchy for a few hours....

its happened every time I've stayed round there... and it doesn't happen when I spend the day around her, hugging her, etc. only when we sleep in the same bed. It's just her eyes, nothing else

 * They still have not determined the direct cause of CFS, GWS or FM. All I do know is that the day after a Marathon in 1979, it felt as though I had a terrible Flu and I simply did not recover from it and have had cfs ever since.  I highly doubt if it was the race, since I was a seasoned runner and ran about a dozen marathons and 50 and 100 milers. I could simply not make a direct correlation. I even asked a very well known specialist in CFS and he told me , "You would have gotten ill anyway"

This is just my perspective on things. Without agricultural spraying the world simply could not continue to expand its population to the extent it has. Organic farming is only done well on a small commercial basis or at home by people that want to eat organic foods.

I spent a couple of years in the Peace Corp in W. Africa and the only reasons I became very ill was from amoebic dysentary (house boy did not boil the water) and from Malaria after being bitten somewhere near the outhouse. We are so fortunate to live here in the USA where it truly is the land of plenty. Our health care system is great, exept for maybe properly treating this darn illness. You may speculate and give your opinion freely, but the facts do not simply substantiate the correlation of chemicals and FM/CFS/GWS. Sorry this is sooo... long.

Kindest Regards, Grit

A woman shared with me that after a return from Hawaii to Fairbanks she lost her sense of taste (& smell)  Eventually she could tell whether or not something was sweet or sour, but not that she was eating chocolate, for instance.

Another woman shared that she recalls the exact day here chronic fatigue syndrome started up.  She had been attending a convention in another part of Alaska in 1991 and had horrible flu symptoms that lasted for the day even on the plane on the way home.  Doctors have not been able to determine her fatigue, etc.  Eventually she had to give up her job, as she couldn't predict when she would be able to show up for work.

A woman who was a guest in our home shared that after a long airplane ride half way across the continental USA, her eyes were burning & hurting, she has never been the same since - serious health ailments started up

I am very sensitive to this chemical.  I have been 'maxed out' so my body 'objects' before someone else's would.  One day my husband had been working with this chemical & come into our 'office'  My computer is in the corner.  The nostril on my husband's side started 'the sniffles' but not the other nostril.  To this day, that nostril is more sensitive to 'the sniffles' than the other.   Another time, same room, same setting.  My husband had been working on some project & came into our office.  I had several immediate, violent diarrhea episodes.  He gets the direct exposure, & as it is breathed out in his respiration, it gets into my eyes (second hand solvent exposure)

Last year my husband, as a passenger on a half hour airplane ride, sat next to a 'crazy' man (whom I suspect had poisoning of this chemical)

'the grip' or locked bowel started up ...nor had I seen this response in him on the prior trips

Maybe someday a 'breathalyzer test' will help keep our people 'health-safe' when they travel

(if it is exposure to 2-butoxyethanol)  . . .
