July 3 in Valdez The Long Island Youth Orchestra was in Valdez as part of their Summer Tour. They performed at the Civic Center to kick off our 4th of July Weekend Celebration. The performance was at 7:00 pm on July 3rd. $10 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Children under 2 are FREE. This was quite an amazing show! This group has performed all over the world in it's 30 years and they specifically chose Valdez to visit this year. Yes, they were welcome!
"One of the best organized 'welcomes' of my 32 year career," says conductor They arrived July 1 in Valdez Above is the 10AM July 2 practice. Concert tour ends July 27 in San Francisco They performed for free and aside from housing and food paid their way to get here, etc. They are charging for the performance and donating all of the proceeds back to the Valdez Rotary Club. That is who we helped to organize the event. It was a great and exciting for our small community. Thank you, New York, for sharing your most valuable natural resource with us: your talented youth!
Thanks to those who housed the
musicians. Part of their experience is meeting and
visiting with local students and we are hoping to help make that
happen. And thank you to the volunteers who assisted with
several functions throughout: 2 people to greet the
students at the ferry terminal on 7/1 at 9:30 pm; who greeted and passed out welcome packets; 5 people
who assisted with the
picnic/mixer on 7/2 from 12:00 to 3:00. Consisting of set
up, cooking, serving, and clean up; & helping set up
cookies/coffee for after the performance, and people who sold
tickets, welcomed, passed out programs, and ushered.
Helpers were to contact Sharon or Becca at the VCVB. 835-2984 July 4 The Orchestra was in Anchorage The VALDEZ July 4, Fairbanks Street Block Party was 11am-4pm - An outstanding SUCCESS! Good weather - good merchants - good crowd! Or did you take part in Glennallen's festivities? |
