to
assist in providing dietary supplements to
children whose parents could never afford
them |

It
has been five or more years since we met in Grand
Prairie on a Saturday morning for "30
minutes" that turned into over two hours. I
do not recall the Mannatech distributor's name from
Brownwood that set up our getting
together. When you drove
away in your pickup truck, I thought I had failed
miserably to get the message over to you that the
Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA)
had released a wonderful micronutrient technology that
is simple, effective and economical means to support
the normal physiology of the human body.
Recent events attest to how
wrong I was.
How
I misread the scant clues you gave me of your
interest! I thought you had little interest
despite the prolonged session and I felt that I had wasted
your time. The "Visit your congressman day"
held by the Council for Responsible Nutrition this year
during which you lectured Terry Persinger, president of
Mannatech Inc. and his fellow other nutrient company
presidents was an informational earthquake. I am
so, so grateful that
a family
member has had significant benefits.
I am looking forward to December 20 when you and Sam Caster,
CEO and founder of Mannatech give presentations at Sheraton
Grand DFW Hotel Ballroom. I hope you will give
some before and after examples of how the life you observed
can be enriched by micronutrients.
I
want to be able to discuss issues with you in the near
future relating to stealth activity designed to gut, if
not destroy the DSHEA legislation by those that opposed its
original passage. I
have been to Brussels twice and London several times
consulting with groups fighting EU efforts to try
and essentially banish dietary supplements in the European Union
nations. While this was going on in the
USA official spokespersons for the FDA have been pleading a
case at major pharmaceutical and medical meeting for the
need of harmonization in supplement and
prescription drug regulations with the European Union
as a boon to promote good business and to simplify
labels and ingredient formulations
and all such regulations .
I sought to thwart the influence of such parties in
their efforts to insert previsions presented in Belgium
present in SB 722 and its companion house bill that contain
clever, if not hidden, phraseology promoting safety for
FOOD!, that is more onerous than the three phase FDA
process for approval of a new drug. This proposed
legislation would essentially destroy access to the
benefits you are aware that exist, that no
pharmaceutical drug has ever accomplished or will.
I
could attempt to justify and plead my case, but I
think the attached message and response says more than
volumes of my efforts could
begin to touch. It is the most commanding
"Christmas Message" I will ever receive. I
hope it enriches your days ahead as it will mine.
Furthermore, I hope this child further
stimulates you to guide me in how to proceed in a
constructive manner to preserve and spread this safe,
effective, and economical means to improve health for
countless numbers of children who have no hope.
I want you to know
you have seen but the tip of the iceberg of what dietary
supplements can do for society. I was asked to speak
at a nutrition meeting in Europe sponsored by the
United Nations Office of Food and Agriculture located
in Rome, Italy, as a special invited guest.
The topic was, "A Method and Means to Reduce Health
Care Costs while Improving Quality of Life for the
Masses." The passage of the DSHEA
act, that the House of Representatives gave a
100% vote, made this possible.
