hello i hope someone can help. i have been feeling ill
for weeks. weakness, sooo tired all the time, no energy,
short of breath, pain in top of back and side now
spreading to bottom of back, numb hand. finally got a
phone call today from doctor. she says i am deficient in
vitamin b12 and needs to see me. i made an appointment
for monday but wonder is it normal to feel so short of
breath? i've hardly got to do anything and i feel so
ill. please someone reassure me. i've searched the net
and although it says nerve problems and anaemia, is
shortness of breath a symptom? thanks.

hi, thanks for replying. got in
to see doc this morning. she says i haven't got anemia but says i
shouldn't be feeling short of breath or ill. that's what i don't
understand. she said i have also got really low folic acid levels
too. she is going to speak to the hematologist to see about
further tests. now I'm even more confused. why won't she believe
me how short of breath i keep getting and how yuk i feel?

shortness of breath - a symptom of approaching hemolytic
anemia?
This is one of the symptoms of hemolytic anemia; but often the
body can compensate by putting out more red blood cells, though
they would be low function red blood cells (& these don't do
all that mature red blood cells could do in carrying the oxygen,
etc)
Until it becomes full blown hemolytic anemia (maybe it could
take years) the bone marrow can cover it up and give the number
of counts of red blood cells that look normal.
Later when the bone marrow can't keep up, the red blood cells
can be made in the peripheral organs (liver, spleen, etc) and
then there is concern about the spinal chord being 'crushed' extramedullary
hematopoiesis.
This kind of anemia is listed as being caused by 2-butoxyethanol
and that chemical is one that the gulf war troops were exposed
to; probably today's troops, too and a whole lot of the public
as well. For sure the chemical used during the Exxon Valdez oil
spill cleanup.
Other symptoms you might notice:
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Pale color
- Shortness of breath *
- Rapid heart rate
- Yellow skin color (jaundice)
- Dark urine (indicative of blood in urine - never dismiss
this! Stop exposure immediately!)
- Enlarged spleen

There's not really a commitment if you aren't married or soon plan to be.
Considering you were only 16 when you became 'seriously' involved with a young man, you may have stunted your emotional and social development.
And as the last post said, 'you can't hold onto something and make it happen' If you are to be loved by someone else, it will be freely given. You can't coerce a relationship. If it's meant to be, and you are loving and caring, it will be. If not, the sooner you separate and are available for 'Mr. Right' the better off you will both be.
