Industrial Sign Making - Health Hazardous?

I was injured from solvent exposure at my job from 1999-2002.

I have spent over a year trying to save enough $ to be seen by a specialist,

I do have an attorney his name is Paul Selin.

I have been getting worked over financially and emotionally by local doctors,

none of whom seem to know anything about exposure to chemicals & solvents.

A treatment plan was laid out for my Neurologist at the time (SAM YOUNG) in 2003.  But he left his practice 2 months later.

By that time I was discharged from my job for calling OSHA in for an Inspection , Had NO Health Insurance, I was paying out of my pocket for everything,

& could not afford the test no matter how hard I tried~ hell I could barely afford to eat & keep a roof over my head, much less afford my scripts every month.

I've been to Chicago, but didn't have enough funds to keep going up there for test & treatment.

Everyday it seems harder & harder to get up and get going,.

my bones and muscles feel like they are deteriorating rapidly & the fatigue I can't even describe.

Please take time to read my story and look over some of the attached documents from the

U.I.U.C. Occ. Med. department.

My story in a nutshell is as follows.......

I was an industrial sign painter for several years for a local sign company.  My symptoms started after 4 years of Polyurethane paint, V.O.C., & solvent exposure from my job.

MEK, zylene, tolulene, N-mono butyl ether, benzene, alcohol, you name it I worked with all the big nasties and had no training, no protection, & no Idea.

I started having Constant Fatigue, Passing out at stop lights, or just blacking out a lot. It took nearly 2.75 years to get a straight diagnosis.

I had a vasovagal reaction to a catalyst substance that I had taken to them for analysis when it spilled onto the floor last time  I was seen in Chicago at the UIUC.

I fully lost consciousness and came to surrounded by EMT's & fire fighters.  I was last told to schedule an appointment for some very expensive test( that I could not afford ) and told I have to pay for them upfront because of a lack of healthcare insurance. I had to cancel the appointment and have since been w/out treatment for my affliction (solvent poisoning ~ long term exposure)

I'm falling apart here and I don't know what to do.

It seems all the doctors down here in Champaign, Il. refuse to acknowledge even the slightest possibility that my symptoms are related to my work...and V.O.C.'s.....It feels so hopeless , all I want is to be seen by a specialist ~ who deals with this kind of thing on a regular basis, knows what to look for, and the proper course of treatment for my symptoms if there is one.

I'm still suffering from all of the same symptoms , some of them have gotten worse.. the resting tremors, fatigue, ringing in my ears, Sleep problems, upper respiratory problems (especially) and headaches are a fact of my daily life now.

Is there anything I can do here??? I'm desperate. I did finally change jobs and have health insurance , but they won't cover my pre-existing Condition.

I've contacted OSHA, The EPA, and A lawyer.

No one Cares!!!! what is wrong here?
These people are still in business and throwing their waste into a dumpster that's been going to the same landfill year after year, with office documents as well.

I'm talking about neon units containing mercury, Fluorescent bulbs, paint cans that had lead based paint in them as well as many other chemicals, used Transformers and ballast too.

I know for a fact that all of the above require special handling when it comes to disposal.  And that in their new location their paint booth exhaust into a local children's park and baseball field as well as residences next to the business.

I need help to make sure that what has happened to me happens to no one else ever again.

Any Information or contacts would be helpful.  I'm so tired of suffering in silence.

I was told it was stress in 2001, I have lots of documentation of my case , OSHA inspection reports with fines, exam records, MSDS sheets, witnesses to my working conditions, photos of my work area, all pointing to the cause- solvents!

Yet my former employers insurance company still denies my claim, I can't get treatment or seen by the doc's I need to see.

I was told it was all in my head for a long time,

I've nearly committed suicide over all this........ I knew I needed help w/ that, so I see a counselor.

But now I hold out hoping for some kind of justice.  I do know I will never have the quality of life I once had. I can't bike or play with my son like we used to.

I've been told I'm narcoleptic (solvent induced Narcosis) now and have been on Adderall for about 1.5 years this started about 3.5 years ago.

I don't have the same symptoms as most people w/ narcolepsy. Mine are way different! I feel I'm being given a Band-Aid to but on an amputated limb.

My lawyer doubts I'll get any compensation for my bills....since there were NO toxicology test performed immediately when I became Ill.

I did everything that I was told to do from day one by my healthcare providers yet I still get shafted, what is wrong w/ these people???  How much evidence do I need to prove this?

I live in Illinois
I would love any advice or support
PLEASE HELP!      sincerely, Gary

Gary ...

You state, "My lawyer doubts I'll get any compensation for my bills....since there were NO toxicology test performed immediately when I became Ill."

My thoughts on this ... are that you KNOW when your symptoms started; what harm has happened to you ... is provable, even now ... so your attorney may not be correct on this.  Especially, as you say, your supervisor has now come down with NHL lymphoma & is dying.  If you check with him he may also know when his health symptoms started & you may 'look alike' in the fatigue from EGBE.  Out of the mouths of 2 or 3 witnesses a thing can be established.

Find 'the fatigue' of CFIDS, CFS, FM ...

that is the common denominator & the proof

You don't have to look EXACTLY alike - to Look Alike

(if it is exposure to 2-butoxyethanol)

For Central Nervous System symptoms ... I would suspect these:
Short term memory loss
Difficulty concentrating
Personality changes to 'grumpy' - Extreme Irritability
*
Difficulty sleeping at night
All the time Depression
Suicidal Tendencies

Mimics true psychiatric disorder

And HORRIBLE headaches (Autoimmune hypothalamus headaches?)

And changes in blood sugar, blood pressure, body temp (High or low)

And hormones 'off' ... thyroid, adrenal, etc (High or low)

These are some of the central nervous symptoms signs of effects of 2-butoxyethanol (but maybe some other chemicals too) ... in the case of this exposure I suspect FATIGUE also

But someone might want to check THE FATIGUE signs of what ails you (if it is exposure to 2-butoxyethanol
& these signs are there:
Chills
Fatigue
Pale color
Shortness of breath
Rapid heart rate
  *   *
Yellow skin color (jaundice)
Dark urine (indicative of blood in urine - never dismiss this! Stop exposure immediately!)
Enlarged spleen
*

I got this list from the medical dictionary - as 2-butoxyethanol is supposed to cause hemolytic anemia
.
I'm putting your story down here & for right now, just sharing with Dr. Rea & his staff (& YOU, of course)  Dr. Rea is in Dallas, TX and does understand chemical poisoning of many of these chemicals you mention

The good news is ... that on many chemicals a person is affected by, there are tests to determine whether or not they are still in your system ... and ways to remove them.

Not true for the only chemical I know about:  2-butoxyethanol ... as it is like a tornado chemical.  It comes & goes ... and leaves behind a lot of damage - most particularly (best I can tell) an autoimmune immune system.  I checked with Accu-Chem laboratories and they do not have a test for it in people.  But as I've shared already, it does have a pattern of fatigue & CNS damage - and I suspect it won't be long before MDs start looking for it's pattern of harm.  It does appear hopeful that glyconutrients will help aright an autoimmune immune system & then the body can heal itself.

Are you taking any medications that don't help you?  the less medications the better for anyone who has been chemically poisoned.  Actually that could be the cause of your 'tremors'  Don't know, but it is one of the ways your body 'complains' about too much of a chemical exposure (which could include medications)

I just looked at the MSDS that you sent ... the lacquer - paint thinner is SO scary ... Lacryl 208 thinner MSDS shows 50-75% is ethylene glycol monobutyl ether CAS No 111-75-2 pdf  One product developer was screaming one day that the 5% concentration of it in Glass Plus was unsafe for home use!

C6H14O2/CH3(CH2)2CH2OCH2CH2OH

Oh, my goodness ... and this Lacryl 218 Retarder  is much worse ... the double compounded version at 75-100% concentration

C8H18O3 / CH2(CH2)3OCH2CH2OCH2CH2OHDGME

Note the chemical formula of these 2 here & more info

For the MSDS to say it is only #1 hazard category - a slight risk - is mind-boggling to me

Audrey's husband only misted Simple Green - 45 min at work - 6% EGBE

MSDS show these Poly207 pdf and Lettering-V3 pdf

as Hazard level 2 or 2+ .... but I don't know if they are more hazardous that these

How did you know 206 had EGBE?

This is a January, 2005 MSDS -

& EGBE no longer has to be disclosed since end of 2003
Would need to have an older MSDS
