I have never posted here before. I remembered seeing a place to talk about the Gulf War.

Here is my problem. My husband is on the USS Lincoln. He was on this past deployment and got extended when this new was in Iraq started. The ship came home in May. Since the ship has come home. Every single women that I know of about 40 so far. Have lost the babies or they are severely deformed. To the point that doctors are having to do D&C's. I have one friend who is 8 weeks now but the only thing that formed was a yolk in the sac. Another went yesterday for her first son. Her baby has no heart. So they are doing a D&C tomorrow morning.
Did this happen on the first war? I am wondering if it is from the Small Pox and Anthrax shots they were forced to take.

My son is a Naval veteran and has been recently diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, ITP (rare blood disorder, low blood platelets), the lining of his brain is diminishing, causing extreme dizziness, lack of coordination, enlarged spleen. He was in the Navy in 1990 and 1991 and was not sent to the Gulf but the Mediterranean cruise. He also had a child still born in 1996, now has two sons and one only weighed 2lbs. when he was born and now has to take growth hormone shots and thyroid pills and may have a form of cancer, we won't know, doc said till he begins puberty. My son's cousin was in Navy same time and was sent to The Gulf and he has the very same problems. We know of at least 3other veterans in our town with the very same problems and we have only been looking for Gulf war vets in our area for 1week, and look how many we have already found. The only common thread we can find with these boys, is that they all received the booster anthrax vaccine in 1990 and 1991.They have had some congressional hearings on this vacine. Istill have a lot of research to do but I wanted to respond to your post and let you know there are others out there. Thanks. karenj1236, E-mail pmiserfem8@wmconnect.com

This is not a posted reply, however, it is what I would like to say, if the forum 'rules' would allow:

"I believe the military since 1989 & maybe before,

has been exposed to too much of this chemical:

2-butoxyethanol

It causes the same kinds of symptoms you mention, and especially targets the liver and kidneys.

If you wish more information, please reply to me directly valdez@alaska.com

There is a lot of information on these pages to get you started.

Yes, birth defects is part of it;

So, this can be ongoing to our troops today, and it really concerns me."

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this...but help is needed

In Open topics there is a post called, "My Dad needs help, Calf muscles are wasting away" or something close to that...Here is the post made by Katie....

I cut and copied it, if any one could help that would be great. I put it here because her dad just retired from the military.

I am 19 years old and just found out about my dad having IBM (I think), he has kept it from me until now. He said he has felt weakness since the early 90's but didn't see a doctor until the end of 1999. He was only 38 or so when he found out, and after talking with him it has progressed very quickly!!! I mean I noticed his falling or "tripping" as he called it, but I never knew what it really was.
A couple of evenings ago he lifted up his pant leg to show me his calf (he always wears pants, and I live down the road) so I have never noticed them. He has no muscle there!! I couldn't bear the sight of it and broke down crying. I don't know what to. I am so scared of what is going to happen to him. I can't handle my dad having to buy a wheel chair, if it comes down to it, which I know it will. He is having trouble with the stairs, and I mean all steps!! It is SO hard to watch my dad have trouble getting up out of a chair or walking period!! I know nothing about IBM and after looking up on the internet, I don't think anyone does.

My dad just retired from the military 2 or 3 years ago. (He was a Marine). After his retirement he started his own fencing company, he works non-stop, and that is just the way he is. I am so scared its alot of work on his muscles. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? I dont understand. What can I do. It hurts me so much to see him go through this everyday.
I have also just recently found out that he hasnt been to the doctor in 3 years, he said he is going this winter, when the his business slows down. So in the mean time, all I can do is look for all possibilites. Since he has been to the doctor, I am sure things have changed with diagnoses. With his symptoms he could have any number of things. I have seen so many different types of myositis, and other diseases. IBM is suppose to start at an older age, right? My daddy is too young!! HELP!!!!
Anyone with any advice, expierience or encouragement would be appreciated. Thanks.

It has been a long time and my life has changed in so many ways as a result of it. I have gone back and forth from being skeptical to knowing without a doubt. I had occasional health problems before GW, but afterwards it just went downhill and was a frustrating, infuriating and depressing path. I went to Saudi Arabia in Dec of 90. I was Army. I am a female. I had some inoculations before going, was forced to take the PB pills under threat of article 15. (which I now wish I had chose instead of the pills) There was scuds being shot down every day more than once a day. I was on guard duty when I felt the impact of the last scud launched hitting a compound only 10-15 min away. (which no site or article ever writes or acknowledges)
When I started feeling sick I didn't even associate to the Gulf War. I was telling one of my first sergeants about my symptoms and he pointed out that I sounded like the cases of GW Illnesses occurring. I read the article and cried. I was one of the first ones on the Gulf Registry. I have gone through tests and Psych evaluations galore. I have the muscle pain & spasms, headaches, nausea, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, memory problems, muscle weakness, legs giving completely out, sleep issues and other difficulties. I have a civilian diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and Depression. The VA gave me a Depression only diagnosis and undiagnosed illness. I at least have some medicine that can help me somewhat function. I have gone through many jobs and my physical strength keeps declining. I was a top tester for my PT (Physical Testing) I was one that max'd them. I use to work out and was into different physical activities/sports. I use to be able to walk for long periods of time and now I pray I can make it through my shopping trips to the grocery store. I no longer can do physical activities and my tolerance for the sun is almost nonexistent.
Because of my civilian doctor diagnosis and persistence, I finally have a 40% disability rating with the VA. That may seem small to some, but after 11 years of 10% and no more help from the VA other than Psych counseling it is a major step.

There is another development in this trip that I have not seen listed anywhere yet is that my husband gets blisters from relations with me. Not only are there men "dishing" it out with burning of partners, but women can cause pain to their partners from this nightmare.

I have ways I deal with it and thank the Lord, I don't have to support myself alone, as I would probably be dead or homeless by now.
There is more, but I think this is plenty for now. Any questions, feel free to ask. There is another issue that irks me is that us GW Vets weren't/aren't notified about "Government" meetings to discuss these issues. Only a small number is informed. If all of us sufferers had an opportunity to show up in a manner to express the magnitude of this, before we disappear, I feel it would make a major impact. Maybe not solutions, but it would validate that we do exist and aren't a few in numbers.
Thank you for this Board to be able to have a voice among the many.

also is very sore red bloodshot eyes from this illness to?

11-20-03 To this dear one I was in the process of writing a reply when I was banned from the forum.  Basically, sore eyes, first route of entry for this chemical;

Has she bought household cleaning products like Lysol Tub 'n Tile www.valdezlink.com/only_chemical.htm or 409 Cleaner http://www.valdezlink.com/409msds.htm

They reinstated me - but I must be sure to follow all their rules (I'll read them again!)

Dear one,

Your comment about the eyes ... were they also burning when this first started to happen? There are some cleaning products used at home and in the garages of families that have an often used component, 2-butoxyethanol. To find out if they do, you would have to search for more information; however, there are usually warnings about rinsing eyes for 15 minutes if you get fumes in your eyes, not wearing contacts, not getting in the water systems, etc.

If you can pinpoint when your symptoms started, and what you were doing at that time, you can stop using that and similar products with the same ingredients and stop exposing yourself to more and more serious ramifications of this chemical exposure.

Search for this information as if your life depended on it. It is very important. Be an educated consumer.

By the way, there are MDs who are also toxicologists and there are specialty labs that test for chemicals residual in your system. The will know about such things.

All the best
