| I'm just starting to learn about
CFS because I noted in the definition that it is an unknown source of debilitating fatigue lasting 6 months or longer and it has to have at least 4 other add on symptoms. If you note the health problems that are a part of 'Gulf War Syndrome' symptoms, you will note they are the same: short term memory loss; aching joints, etc. AND also in their case, an unknown cause for the fatigue. There is also another chemical that is in many cleaning and degreasers ... that causes these same symptoms and I look forward to doctors testing for the harm it does in their patients with fatigue: red blood cell damage, most likely from one's own immune system & multiple other problems: like central nervous system damage/depression, kidney and liver and immune and endocrine system damage, too (including reproductive) ... & especially the adrenal glands and pancreas and spleen. Often you may see the gall bladder enlarged and ulcerated and removal operations for this and other organs the same. Multiple cancers including leukemia and lymphoma ... .pancreatic, liver, ovarian, prostate ... and sterility are possible. Maybe this could even be the cause of the decline of quantity and quality of male sperm over the last 40 years; several news articles have been written about this in 1996: 1-15-96 The New Yorker Magazine, "Silent Sperm" describes the 50% loss in sperm count that has occurred in men worldwide during the past 40 years; January, 1996 issue of ESQUIRE features an article on sperm loss, titled "Downward Motility;" MOTHER JONES magazine "Down for the Count;" AND the NEW YORK TIMES, ran a 4-part, front-page series on increasing infertility in the U.S. January 7-10, 1996 Maybe they are putting this chemical in the mix of jet fuels? Some suspect so - and that would be a source of exposure world-wide BESIDES the many products people use daily that have too strong a concentration of this pesticide/solvent/poison: 2-butoxyethanol. Whether or not ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (2-butoxyethanol) should be ruled in or out, may be ascertained by a simple add on blood test - the 'retic' ratio (Do you have too many immature red blood cells?) and asking the lab tech to comment on the size and shape of your red blood cells. The absolute cell count may also be helpful and that is supposed to be part of a routine blood test. There is a lot more we can learn about our health from a more in-depth look at the blood. This is a source of fatigue that seems to be overlooked. If some of you get abnormal readings on this and related things in your blood, see if the CDC will do a study on some of the groups of people already harmed by it: the 'bioremediation' workers of the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup; the US Coast Guard who monitored the workers; and the US Navy who assisted with the Corexit experiments in July/Aug of 1989 ... to name a few. By the way, it is noted in the Feb, 2003 Book #2 on Solvents and Pesticides that Gulf War troops were exposed to ... that they were exposed to 2-butoxyethanol and to diethylene glycol monobutyl ether. So, how does their 'retic ratio' tests and size and shape of red blood cells compare to groups with known exposure to this chemical family? Another benefit to this study will be to give credit where credit is due. Many existing studies are skewed because the secondary harm of this chemical is being studied, but not the root cause of harm: 2-butoxyethanol poisoning. This chemical can cause irregular readings of blood pressure, blood sugar ... (from endocrine disruption, not diabetes, per se) But underlying everything, should be damage to the red blood cells. Painters are affected by this chemical. What are their occupational health hazards? So are janitors and moms at home AND our military today. Anyone know the solvents in gun cleaners? The company won't say. Praying for you * |
If
you start looking for "chemicals" in our society and world
wide, they're "everywhere"!! I thought escaping to the country
was the answer, but my research has led me to believe that you just
cannot fully escape what us dumb humans have done to this poor planet. |

| You are exactly correct. And although there are many, many chemicals, this one family of ethylene glycol ethers is so harmful, that I believe when the whole story is told, the public will arise and want it banned by the US Legislature. May I ask what you noticed when you were in the military? What were you doing when you noticed the fatigue? Do you remember a time when your eyes burned and hurt like red hot pokers were in them? ... and your urine turned dark? ... and you had 'flu-like' symptoms? ... and the very next morning, after a full night's sleep, a horrible exhaustion? (The eye membranes are the worst exposure and misting 2-butoxyethanol is advised against) I believe this particular chemical has been harming our military for decades, and the general public too. I believe that it showed up more in the Gulf War because it was being used in multiple products and in stronger concentrations and troops were exposed over and over again to the poison/pesticide/solvents in their own weapon cleaning compounds, in jet fuel, in some generally sprayed pesticides in living and working areas. AND whatever caused these to be on the list in the first place (What are the known exposures of Gulf War troops to 2-butoxyethanol and diethylene glycol monobutyl ether?) AND when repetitive use or exposures happened, who was wearing the personal protective equipment per MSDS? ... Such as goggles, chemical retardant gloves, having ventilation equivalent to outdoors, etc |

Where was this Marathon?
There are some places that emit these chemicals in the air. Can you think back to what happened that day?
I believe the unknown 'fatigue' can be diagnosed.
I believe it is important, because you can stop the harm to others.
I believe a little won't hurt, but too much is another story
