Is 2-butoxyethanol exposure a cause of ALS? 

I was wanting to know whether or not ALS was autoimmune ... and per research gathered by lef.org, it does appear so valdezlink.com/pages/autoimmune.htm#is

The reason I wanted to know that... is because ALS is the only thing that is a stand out harm for the 'gulf war vets' of 90-91. I suspect the best 'match' for what harmed these vets was exposure to 2-butoxyethanol and diethylene glycol monobutyl ether. valdezlink.com/same.htm   

... Also which has been prevalent since before WWII. Some of it's birth defects could be other autoimmune issues, as Type 2 diabetes ... also brain tumors.

Lou Gehrig could have run into this chemical, and I wonder whether there is someone who knows his life story well enough to find the exposure? It would show up as some kind of flu-like symptoms: diarrhea; burning eyes. Worst exposure is vapors in one's eyes. In that he was a 14 lb baby, and his other siblings died young or during birth ... it could be that his mother had some exposure, as a cleaning woman. This is a teratogen chemical and there can be effects from a parent who is health damaged by it. AND of course, he could have added his own exposure to that, which have maxed him out on his 'allowable' chemical exposure & caused his disease.

What are the views about the link between glutamate, p38 Kinase activation and neurofilament phosphorylation in diabetic neuropathy and MND. Is it a major factor?

This is above me ... as I'm not a medical person; however, I think you are on the right track. If it is something to do with 2-butoxyethanol exposure (which is the chemical I've learned a lot about) diabetes or abnormal blood sugar is often part of the picture, and many should have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ailments.

If so, the fatigue doctors are looking for is autoimmune hemolytic anemia. But you have to check some extra things to find it. valdezlink.com/pages/thebasics.htm

For too much direct exposure to 2-butoxyethanol, check for trace blood in urine, immature red blood cells, overactive immune system, AND a retic rate that goes from way high .... to too low, but still RBC counts look at least borderline normal.

It causes so much harm, that I believe all trials for all cancers and autoimmune problems should add this extra info to their research. Is there a subset of the group that was harmed by this chemical?

Also, there is Central Nervous System Damage ... and if headaches, I've wondered about whether or not it is a pituitary headache

I suggest that this could be an exposure to the chemical I am talking about.  And if you were living in the 'remodel' zone you would have gotten lots and lots of exposure:  vapors in your eyes.  What's happened to the other members of the family?

Now I have learned a great deal about what this chemical does. And part of it is FATIGUE that rest doesn't help with. When doctors know what the fatigue is in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, then you can ask me to be quiet. In the meantime, I suggest that more people should look into this chemical's harm

I beg to differ with you
By realizing that an autoimmune thing is going on ...
 
and if there is help to stop the immune system from attacking you .. . then future harm might cease.  No new damage.  then maybe the body can heal itself.
 
It is my theory that ALS is caused by exposure to chemicals such as EGBE - 2-butoxyethanol or diethylene glycol monobutyl ether ... that if a person had not had an extreme amount of exposure .. they would not have come down with ALS ... but maybe something lesser in the long list of things it does.  I believe ALS ... on a continuum of exposure would be at the top of the heap.
 
Many ways to get exposed to this ... including some from parent/parents who have been poisoned by it. 
 
 
I explained to this pet owner ... how to find out what was in spot shot carpet cleaner.  Her cat probably has something like Parkinson's;  MS would be an autoimmune thing that this chemical would cause.

PS - It would also help a person to avoid any more exposure to this chemical!
