Bringing a Fishing Pole to Alaska?
Contact Alaska Department of Fish and Game
I received a message that you were interested in fly fishing in the Valdez area with some visitors
There is a fly fishing only section of the Robe where it meets up with the Lowe River if they want to catch salmon. Most salmon streams will also have Dolly varden char in with the salmon. It would probably be best to check with a local bait-tackle store for the best fly patterns to use, but in general pink and chum salmon will hit just about anything that is furry and red-white. Sockeye are real picky, they may hit a very sparsely decorated red hook, perhaps with some copper wire wrapped around it and some bead eyes. Trout and char will hit egg patterns designed to look like salmon eggs. Solomon Creek can also be fished for salmon 300 ft. below the ADF&G Weir.
Make sure they read and understand the regulations. Call me if they have any questions. The regulations can be a little hard to understand sometimes for visitors.
Thompson Lake up on Thompson Pass has grayling in it and Blueberry Lake has some trout.
Below I attached the address of our web site that may interest you. There is some run timing info, and a link to fishing regulations.
Thanks and good luck fishing.
