To The Exxon Rep who was Assigned to Each 'Bioremediation Crew'

 August 22, 2002

Dear Exxon Rep,

If you were a rep on one of the crews of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill clean up - bioremediation project .... 1989 - 1990.... hoping that you are doing ok health-wise.
Some workers have felt very tired (low red blood cell anemia) or all the time depressed...from the chemicals that you, too, worked nearby.  Have you checked your health?  Have your doctors checked for all aspects of possible chemical exposure?

How could workers be aware of the possible cancers that could result, too, from chemical overexposure to the inipol EAP 22?  The quickly put together Exxon MSDS of 7-28-89 states no component had more than 1% of carcinogenic material.  So what is 2-butoxyethanol at 10-12% of inipol EAP 22 by weight?  Too, 2-butoxyethanol is the only ingredient identified on the MSDS then!  Sad, but true.

As an Exxon rep, please carefully check out your own health.  Not even you can escape the health damage

... all those who worked with the oil and who were exposed to the 2-butoxyethanol in the inipol EAP22 & other chemicals are at high risk for serious health problems.

There were many teams, each made up of groups of 10-15 with a lead man and a supervisor. One crew had the following:  A VECO Operations Coordinator, an Exxon Operations Rep; crew members consisted of 5 young men and a supervisor, a safety engineer, a mechanic, a pontoon captain, and the skiff operator.
