At the time we were preparing that chapter, the information I presented in the
section about bioremediation was all that I had available. As far as I
recall, the 2-butoxyethanol was not mentioned. *
It seems that it
would serve as a useful "co-substrate" for the hydrocarbon degraders
though. Ethanol is used readily by a fairly wide range of bacteria and the
butanol would likewise be readily metabolizable.
