Non-Workers May be affected, too -

There's a possibility that you didn't have to even work on the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup to be affected by the chemicals;

they were new... and containers leaked, per what workers say,

So someone could go to the dock or in boats or the Dayville dump...

where chemicals were found;

they were stored somewhere, too - very hazardous -

and most people didn't know it!

If several of these symptoms -in combo- are a concern - check further

for these industries, too:  car/boat painting, dry-cleaning, plastics, general cleaning

What the 2-butoxyethanol poison does - simply put

If a Worker had Anemia caused by the crude oil, it would likely be from the benzene. *

This is said to cause aplastic anemia ... aplastic anemia is a failure of the blood-cell forming capacity of the bone marrow that affects all blood-cell types:  a reduction in all types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets

Benzene is associated with various blood disorders, anemias, and leukemia in humans  *

But a little known fact is that Exxon dumped another of its experimental products, Corexit 9500 with ethylene oxide in the oiled waters where people could at some time be working.  *

If you have either aplastic anemia &/or hemolytic anemia, they would likely be with you early on... & still affect you even if other complications arise.

Check Your Blood History

Note, the focus of this website is anemia cause from oil or solvents.

Doctors will first eliminate sources such as dietary, hereditary, internal bleeding, etc.

Or they can eliminate these sources with testing by a specialty lab

Accurate diagnosis & effective treatment is made difficult

with more than one ailment going on at a time.

Could someone have both aplastic and hemolytic anemia, too?

What kind of acquired hemolytic anemia does the

 2-butoxyethanol *

C6H14O2/CH3(CH2)2CH2OCH2CH2OH

in Inipol EAP 22 cause?  -  Hemolytic?  *

This same 2-butoxyethanol has been listed as an ingredient in Corexit as of 6-14-92 ... a 'dispersant' Exxon also owns & hopes to get the permitting to allow for continued & widespread use.  Is currently in use on the Alyeska Marine Terminal.  Supervisor thinks Corexit is no more than soap; no more caustic than lye.  Maybe he should check the MSDS.... & his blood cell counts, too.

Some workers who had no contact with the oil during the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill cleanup ... who only dealt with the chemicals are showing health damage symptomatic of 2-butoxyethanol over exposure

Definition

Hemolytic anemia is a condition of an inadequate number of circulating red blood cells (anemia), caused by premature destruction of red blood cells.

Causes an all-the-time tired feeling

because there are not enough red blood cells taking oxygen to the rest of the cells. - lay comment

One type is Non-immune hemolytic anemia caused by chemical or physical agents

Immune hemolytic anemia is a disorder characterized by anemia

due to premature destruction of red blood cells by the immune system

Hemolytic Anemia

Hemolytic ("hemo" means blood, "lytic" means destroying) anemia occurs when red blood cells are being destroyed prematurely and the bone marrow (soft, spongy part of the bone that produces new blood cells) simply can't keep up with the demand for new cells. This can happen for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, infections or certain medications, such as antibiotics or anti-seizure medicines, are to blame. In what's known as autoimmune hemolytic anemia, the immune system mistakes red blood cells for foreign invaders and begins destroying them.

Can be caused by chemicals - toxins

Please ask your doctor which type should be tested for!

How are you feeling over time?  About the same?  Or are you more and more tired?

Lymph nodes could be swollen for some type of infection you are combating in your body.  When over exposed to chemicals, it makes the immune system have a harder time working?

Some general symptoms of too much solvent exposure:

Main effects are drying, cracking, reddening skin; dermatitis;  toxic effects on liver, kidneys, and cardiovascular system, on the central and peripheral nervous systems and “general lassitude with tiredness, sleep disturbances and lack of motivation.”
