From 1989 to the end of 1991 the company was known as Atochem North America, Inc. From 1992 to 2000 it was known as Elf Atochem North America, Inc. Atochem, Inc., a manufacturer of industrial and specialty chemicals, was formed in 1984 as the U.S. chemicals unit of Elf Aquitaine, one of the world's top 10 oil and gas companies. On June 3, 2002....

a company... part of the name of it:   elf...
like a French name... leased some tracks of land in Alaska for oil use and that the state got half the money.

With all the mutated name changes Exxon has . . .just wondering whether  Exxon might have been the real purchaser?

Had the Exxon Valdez come to the aid of the tanker off the Spanish coast...

could it have helped unload crude?
