Mother Margaret,

Thank you for taking the time to write. We at the Indiana State Department of Health appreciate your concerns about Gulf War Syndrome. However, this is not an issue that is being researched on the state level. I suggest that you share your concerns with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at http://www.va.gov or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at http://www.cdc.gov

I wrote using this e-mail contact http://capwiz.com/townhall/dbq/officials/ You have your media contacts as well as agency, legislators, etc and can contact 5 at a time in some instances.

You can also contact CDC by postal mail:
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Public Inquiries/MASO
Mailstop F07

U.S.A.

So 1-15-04, I did e-mail them, (action - within hours - CDC referred to NIOSH)
To CDC: There are chemicals that the troops of gulf war #1 have been exposed to www.valdezlink.com/same.htm that cause the symptoms of gulf war syndrome by themselves and these have NOT been studied. You have to go back before 1930 to find an American population that has not been harmed by 2-butoxyethanol aka ethylene glycol ethers. Many are affected www.valdezlink.com/hi.htm and it would be doing the public a service ... including today's military, to have a better understanding of these chemicals. The harm that is done first and which continues is the blood damage. www.valdezlink.com/acute.htm and if lab techs would comment on the red blood cells you could begin to learn about this. Bone marrow problems and liver/kidney problems are also a concern with these chemicals: in fact, this would be a primary cause of harm of 2-butoxyethanol/ethylene glycol ethers www.valdezlink.com/why2b.htm

Could I help with such a study? www.valdezlink.com/study_needed.htm The French coalition forces have not been followed, either, & would appreciate such.

What to do? Check things here: http://www.valdezlink.com/computer_car.htm

For troops today the govt does know sources of exposure to these; plus there is concern about the pesticide spray used to spray an area; for repetitive gun cleaning and some brands of Jet Fuel. Even washing down the soldiers and equipment with DAWN seems harmless, except for repetitive use; why not use real soap?

If he was affected by the ethylene glycol ethers in various situations in the Gulf and at home, he could have the same symptoms. Remember, doctors don't study such, but they must see many, many cases each month for 'secondary' ailments. AND they are teratogens ... so birth defects and still born and even sterility for men and women is possible.

I wish for everyone so affected that they would receive an accurate diagnosis or you continue to be experimented on. The news many not be good, but enough is enough. Lobby CDC to study 2-butoxyethanol and diethylene glycol monobutyl ether exposure. There are enough humans harmed that they can skip the rats & mice. http://www.cdc.gov/netinfo.htm

http://www.valdezlink.com/media-gws/Gulf_War.pdf Note, troops are known to be exposed to these solvents (aka pesticides) and note also, that neither CDC nor any VA studies have been conducted on them. This is an urgent matter. IF they have harmed people as badly as they are supposed to, only a study by CDC will make any changes in public health policy for troops or the loved ones at home. http://www.valdezlink.com/in_position.htm#friend
