subject: What are the unexplained illnesses of today's
troops?

I
heard a comment from a Gulf War Vet 8-13-03 that there was
concern about unexplained illness now going on with the
troops at war in Iraq. Does anyone know what they are?
Also I heard on Nightline about 2 weeks ago, a comment by
Matthew Chance, reporter in Iraq, that so far since the
war there have been 9,000 troops either killed, injured,
or hospitalized for other ailments.
What location were the troops dying unexplainably from
'pneumonia'?
Somewhere in the military there may be a product that used
to be called Corexit 9527. It had 38% 2-butoxyethanol and
original MSDS only said trace ethylene oxide. (That causes
lungs to fill up with fluid, and too much exposure to
2-butoxyethanol can cause the body to shut down: death) Do
they use that in any way to 'decontaminate' the equipment,
either in Iraq or the various facilities that
'decontaminate' equipment here in the USA?
I would be concerned about repeated use of CLP used in gun
cleaning. http://www.valdezlink.com/clp.htm
The MSDS says with repeated use to wear goggles and
chemical retardant gloves. At the least troops are not
doing this. The 'propietary' ingredient of 5% could be a
version of this http://www.valdezlink.com/same.htm
Turns out 2-butoxyethanol or its complex version
Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether are not only solvents
(used in MANY products) but also registered by EPA as
pesticides. USEPA/OPP PC Code: 011502 - Boy, I never knew
that until a couple of days ago. (So besides yearly checks
for kidney and liver function, also check prostate when
using too much of this chemical)
I believe the Legislature should be lobbied to have these
2 chemicals BANNED. They cause all the symptoms, as far as
I can tell, of 'Gulf War Syndrome' I also believe that the
military should inventory ALL cleaner - degreaser products
brought into the military since 1989 and determine which
have 2-butoxyethanol or Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether
and what percentage and then LIMIT troops exposure to
them. (5% is unsafe for home use, such as Lysol Tub 'n
Tile ... 409 Cleaner is not safe, either - Does the
military use these?) Maybe select alternate products for
war-time use. That would simply be too much exposure for
sure, with daily use, and our troops are too valuable to
poison them ourselves.
I would think that the more exposure you get the worse
your diagnosis would be. I do wonder whether Staff Sgt
James Alford may have had this type of exposure over and
over again until his neurological damage was VERY severe.
It was a blessing for him that he was sent home while
still alive and his family can look into his medical info,
as well. http://www.valdezlink.com/alford.htm#note
He is not, by the way, an isolated case. Another in his
same group has the same symptoms. So it could be something
esle, that started with this chemical exposure prior.
Something compounding upon his already compromised health.
Here is more information on these chemicals. http://www.valdezlink.com/doc_gen.htm
May the Legislature arise and BAN these!
Wasn't it outstanding that President George Bush was in
Iraq with the troops on Thanksgiving Day, November 27,
2003? |
