To
my friend, Rebecca, What would you suggest for people who
want to help their health by diet?
Easy…
www.mercola.com
He has many articles on foods and toxins, etc.
I stick pretty closely to Dr. Mercola’s recommendations.
In a nutshell:
Nothing
White: no white flour (in fact, he recommends no grains at
all because of mycotoxins (may have spelled that wrong); no
white milk (unless you can get RAW milk—pasteurization alters
milk); no white rice (it’s stripped of all its good benefits);
and white potatoes (potatoes carry a fungus also as well as do
peanuts). Cauliflower is the only exception to the White
Rule.
If
at all possible, eat everything organic. If you can’t
eat organic, then there is a list that ranks fruits and
vegetables based on the amounts of pesticides, etc. used to
raise them (as well as waxes and other treatments added AFTER
they are harvested to preserve them (this is the case for
potatoes).
Avoid
what the Bible would have called unclean (yes, there was a
reason for all those laws!!): shark, shrimp, pork, etc.
The reason for this is that these animals either can’t digest
out toxins and/or feed on carrion. (i.e., pork has only
one stomach, just like humans. That means that any toxins
they eat--such as in pesticide-grown grains--go through one
stomach into the intestines and concentrate in the muscles for
us to eat. Shrimp are scavengers as well as shark and many
others. We wouldn’t dream of eating buzzard!
Conversely, cows have two stomachs so that helps.
Mercola
also recommends grass-fed beef or buffalo (moose also).
The grains fed to cows are loaded with pesticides and in
many cases are genetically altered. Many are stored long
periods with additional chemicals and often end up with molds on
them. Another down point for the traditionally raised cows
and chicken, etc., are the growth hormones and antibiotics used
to raise them. That’s all concentrated in the muscles
which we eat.
Water
is the BEST choice, but never drink soda.
All
this does cost more, especially up here, but consider that
organic foods actually yield about 1/3rd more benefit
for your buck. Mercola also minimizes the amount of
supplements a person should take. He says we are way
over-doing supplements and with the exception of a very few,
should get our nutrients from good, organic food.
Other
good resources: The Maker’s Diet by Dr. Rubin
(this book is promoted by Dr. Charles Stanley. Dr. Rubin
is a Christian doctor.
Not
much of a nutshell was it!! Good luck. There’s
tons of good healthy nutrition information on the web, but
mostly Dr. Mercola’s website filters and picks the best of it.
He’s pretty sound with his advice and not all sites are.
Hope
this helps
